Karen James is a contemporary realist artist and life-long resident of the beautiful state of Rhode Island. While practicing her art throughout her life, she has been working as a professional artist since 1995.
Her earliest and most influential tutelage was under the guidance of her father who received his training at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In later years she too would have the opportunity to attend the same institution. Over the years she has trained under many methods, leading to her own vision and practices which she utilizes today.
Nature displays prominently in her art. Working from life and her own photography she creates detailed drawings and paintings of flora and fauna that she feels can contribute to the necessary preservation of nature and our environment.
Karen became an Associate Member of the American Women Artists as of November, 2021. In October 2020, she was juried into the prestigious International Guild of Realism.
